The Square (a non-profit board stewarding events and activities at Pioneer Courthouse Square at the heart of Portland) needed a fresh direction for their 2024 holiday branding. Past years had focused on a more cute, hand-drawn aesthetic but The Square wanted to hone in on a more elevated and nostalgic feeling for 2024.

The brand needed to feel elegant, friendly, and evoke warm memories of holidays past. The brand elements needed to feel festive without focusing on one particular holiday. The theme was “Downtown for the Holidays.”

We created a wordmark, modular illustrations, and font & color guidelines that could be handed over to The Square’s creative team to be applied to a wide range of media including large-scale signage, a giant tree skirt, name tags, social media posts, a TV ad, and more.
